Record US Pork Exports

Las US pork exports hit record high in 2023driven by strong performance in Mexico and broad growth in other markets.

According to the last data of the year published in USDA and compiled by the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF), December pork exports increased by almost 10% compared to last yearmarking the highest number since May 2021.

Data for the end of the year show that pork exports reached 268,399 tons, worth 765.8 million dollars (710.71 million euros), representing an increase of 11% compared to the same period last year.

This increase is driven mainly by the Mexican marketwhich set records in volume (105,451 tons) and value ($233.8 million (216.93 million euros)).

The strong results in December contributed to record annual pork exports in terms of value, which amounted to $8.16 billion (€7,570.97 million), an increase of 6% compared to last year. In addition, the value of exports per head slaughtered also reached a historical high of almost 64 dollars (59.38 euros).

USMEF President and CEO, Dan Halstromhighlights the great growth in global demand for American pork in 2023, especially in Mexico, but also in other markets such as South America, Asia and the Pacific.

Meanwhile, US beef exports in 2023 saw a a slight decrease compared to last year, although exports in December were the highest since August. The value of meat exports in December increased by 10% year-on-year, reaching $860.8 million (€798.87 million).

Despite the challenges, Beef exports closed the year on an encouraging notewhich exceeded 430 dollars (399.16 euros) per capita in value, with Mexico as a prominent market.…Read more by World Nation News Desk
