Sandusky to host Total Eclipse of SUNdusky Festival

To commemorate the April 8 total solar eclipse, Sandusky City Commission issued a proclamation to declare the city of Sandusky as SUNdusky, USA during eclipse weekend, April 5-8 which promises to yield an unforgettable celebration, according to a news release.

Named as one of the top seven locations in the U.S. to watch the eclipse by Outside, an outdoors magazine, Sandusky is perfectly positioned in the path of totality to experience a duration of almost four minutes of the total eclipse, the release said.

To celebrate this historic event, Sandusky and Destination Sandusky are planning the Total Eclipse of SUNdusky Festival that includes educational events, a music festival, and a market, according to the release.

The music festival will feature several acts.

The Flying J’s will perform at noon, Swagg at 2 p.m. and The Kinsman Dazz Band at 5 p.m., April 6, the release said.

Steve Brownell will perform at noon, Follow the Sun at 2 p.m. and Killer Flamingos at 5 p.m., April 7

The Menus will perform at noon, April 8.

All events will be free and open to the public.

The Cosmic Education event on April 3 will take place at the Cedar Point Sports Center, and all other events will be on the Jackson Street Pier in downtown Sandusky, according to the release.

“The city of Sandusky can’t wait to host this once-in-a-lifetime event at the Jackson Street Pier on the city’s waterfront,” said Jason Werling, the city of Sandusky recreation superintendent, in the release. “We have lined up an entertainment schedule to showcase eclipse-themed movies, as well as a three-day music festival on the Erie County Community Foundation stage with some Total Eclipse of the Heart covers to keep the crowd entertained.”

Many other events will take place in Sandusky and the Shores and Islands Ohio region, including the Total Eclipse of the Point at Cedar Point amusement park.

Cedar Point will be open for one day only to celebrate the solar eclipse, and selling limited tickets, according to the release.…Read more by Editorial staff
