Applications for summer jobs under the Governor’s youth employment program are now available.

The employment program is under the Department of Youth Affairs and is open to all eligible high school students interested in gaining hands-on work experience with the government or in early childhood development, according to a release from the governor’s office.

“Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio and I invite our eligible teens to participate in the Governor’s Summer Youth Employment Program. This initiative offers a valuable opportunity for our youth to acquire essential skills and professional experience. Summer jobs not only provide financial independence but also instill responsibility, teamwork, and time management skills crucial for their future success,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero in a release. “Join us as we invest in the development of our future workforce.”

This is the first time that students in the program will be able to work outside of the government.

This year, students can explore the childcare workforce in Guam’s private sector, specifically the daycare facilities. The update to the program was made possible through funding provided by the Department of Public Health and Social Services’ (DPHSS) Child Care and Development Fund Program.

Students who gain employment in the program will work from June 17 through July 26.

Summer job candidates must be between the ages of 15 to 17, a Guam resident and capable of working 30-hour workweeks for the duration of the program.

To apply, students must have a photo ID, a parent’s or guardian’s photo ID and a social security card.

Students applying to work in childcare will need additional documentation, such as a police and court clearance, health certificate, and Bureau of Child Care Services Consent for Disclosure of Client Information form.

Job applications can be found online at dya.guam.gov and at the Lagu, Kattan and Haya Youth Resource Centers.

Applications will be accepted Sunday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tiyan High School gymnasium.…Read more by Jolene Toves | The Guam Daily Post
