Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital has opened a newly-renovated 3,600-square-foot medical practice specializing in geriatric medicine and adult primary care, conveniently located just down the block from the hospital. The facility, which features seven exam rooms, three physician offices and a point-of-care testing laboratory, houses a team of six physicians – three focusing on geriatric primary and specialized care, and three on internal medicine primary care – as well as administrative personnel and a social worker dedicated to services for older adults.

“This new dedicated senior health care practice is part of Lenox Hill’s ongoing effort to ensure that our community members have access to comprehensive and compassionate adult primary and specialized care that improves their quality of life and overall wellbeing,” said Daniel Baker, MD, executive director of Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital. “We want to see our community members thrive no matter their age and I am certain they can do so through Northwell’s world-renowned care.”

Patients of the practice who may require additional or subspecialty care can benefit from Northwell Health’s comprehensive referral network, connecting them with specialists both within the hospital and at various ambulatory and outpatient facilities throughout the city.

“This practice is committed to providing comprehensive multi-disciplinary medical care that promotes healthy aging, independence, and safety while supporting the needs of the individual, their families, and caregivers,” said Maria Torroella Carney, MD, chief of the division of geriatric and palliative medicine at Northwell Health.

Lenox Hill has consistently anticipated the needs of older adults and those with complex needs by implementing tailored programs and services to benefit them. In addition to this new office, the hospital operates an expansive house calls program that delivers primary and specialized care to hundreds of homebound patients across the city. While it is open to people of all ages, the median age of those utilizing its services is 82.

The efforts to provide top-notch services that promote longevity, independence and safety in our older adult community have earned Lenox Hill national recognition for geriatric medicine. U.S. News & World Report ranked it within the nation’s top 25 for geriatrics. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement named Lenox Hill a Level One Age-Friendly Health System for its implementation of evidence-based elements of high-quality care. The hospital has also received Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation from the American College of Emergency Physicians for its exceptional care of seniors.
