PORVORIM: Legislative Assembly members brought up the issue of electricity linesmen’s safety, calling for increased pay for those who die while performing their duties.
Alemao stated, “As of now, electrocution has claimed the lives of 31 animals and 55 government employees who were electrocuted while working.” “The government has not taken any action to ensure the safety of linesmen, save from providing lip service and nominal compensation.”
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar shared a tragedy from his area, saying, “A Virnoda linesman lost his life while performing his duties.” He leaves a wife and two children behind. Will the recompense pay for the victim’s children’s educational expenses?
Chandrakant Shetye, a Bicholim MLA, emphasized the human cost of these tragedies. These 25–45 year old linesmen pass away as a result of electrocution accidents that occur while they are working. In light of this, the Rs 25 lakh in compensation is insufficient. A plan needs to be developed to help these victims’ dependents.
Mayem MLA Premendra Shet stated, “Compensatory jobs should be given to the dependents of these victims in addition to financial aid.”
BJP Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar suggested that life insurance be given to these linesmen, saying, “The compensation paid should be increased from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10-15 lakh.”
The BJP lawmaker from Poriem, Deviya Rane, stated, “There is a scarcity of engineers, wiremen, and linesmen. This must be raised in order to respond as quickly as possible to power outages brought on by fallen trees.
BJP MLA Ganesh Gaonkar stated that proper equipment is required to guarantee the security of linesmen.
In addition to highlighting the significance of modern tools, RG MLA Viresh Borkar stated that “linesmen require raincoats, gloves, and ladders.”…Read more by Team Admin
