Grace Mary Maunu departed the earth peacefully at home with her husband Howard Maunu at her side, at the age of 92. She enjoyed a full life of golf, travel, and unconditional love from all who knew her. She was the picture of class and thoughtfulness, and was sharp as a tack with a quick wit. Grace will be remembered as a strong, loving woman who positively impacted everyone around her. Grace was born in St. Claire, Michigan, on December 22, 1931, to parents Lydia and George Gerald Guyor. Her siblings were Robert Guyor, Carol Valla, and Barbara Neuman. She is survived by her husband, Howard Maunu; her stepchildren Cindy Blake Carpenter, Deborah Blake, Robert Blake, Mark and Suzy Maunu, Dr. Leanne and Mike Maunu, Mike Maunu and Brittany Lee; her step grandchildren Melissa and Ryan Hart, Allison and Alexander Schumer, Clementine Maunu, Sam Maunu, and Mars Maunu; and her great-grandchildren Harrison Hart and Amelia Schumer. She grew up in Michigan as the oldest of four. Her passion for loving others began in her young life as a nurse at New York University Hospital in Neurosurgery. She moved to California and became an industrial nurse at Ford Motor Company, where she fell in love with her first husband, Robert (Bob) Blake. When they married, she opened her loving arms to his three young children, Cindy, Debby, and Bobby. In retirement, Grace and Bob moved to Ramona, CA, where they continued golfing and traveling the world until he passed away in 1999. Fortunately, true love does exist twice. Grace met widower Howard in 2001, and the two spent the last eighteen years traveling the world, watching their children and grandchildren grow, and blending the love of two families together. Grace and Howard cruised around the world, sharing stories of their wondrous experiences with those around them. She will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery, and will always be remembered as the epitome of “grace” to all those who knew her.…Read more by San Diego Union-Tribune
