SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — The Scottsdale Unified School District recently voted to develop a new uniform policy for booster programs that would help oversee and assist them.
The vote comes after a Scottsdale mother police say stole from one school’s booster program.
Earlier this month, police say Nubia Gonzalez, who was the treasurer for a Cocopah Middle School booster program, stole more than $35,000 and then went missing. She later turned herself in.
Before the alleged theft, in April, the school board pushed back the policy vote until last week. One board member wondered if that alleged theft would have been “disrupted” if the board voted on the policy in April.
“Lets be clear, had the board acted back in April when the administration recommendation had been put forward, perhaps we could have disrupted what happened at Cocopah,” Julie Cieniawski said.
Arizona’s Family asked SUSD’s general counsel if that was the case. While he could not confirm, he did say the policy mirrors most districts in Arizona.
“The policy enables the district to create a regulation that flows directly from governing board policy,” said Nick Buzan, SUSD’s General Counsel.
