LEONARD RIGGIO (1941-2024): Leonard Riggio, a brash, selfstyled underdog who transformed the publishing industry by building Barnes & Noble into the country’s most powerful bookseller before his company was overtaken by the rise of Amazon.com, died Tuesday after battling Alzheimer’s disease, his family said. He was 83.
‘SID VICIOUS’ (1960-2024): Sidney Raymond Eudy, aka professional wrestler Sid Vicious, who was known for his intense persona and imposing stature, died Monday after “battling cancer for several years,” son Gunnar Eudy announced Monday. He was 63. In a statement, WWE called Sidney Eudy “one of the most imposing and terrifying competitors of his generation.”
GOLDEN GLOBES: Comedian and actor Nikki Glaser was chosen this past week to host the next Golden Globes, adding an edgy voice known for mercilessly teasing the rich and powerful. Glaser will make her Globe debut Jan. 5 live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. In a statement, she cited Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Ricky Gervais as inspirations.
MARIAH CAREY: Mariah Carey said Monday in a statement that her mother, Patricia, and sister Alison both died last weekend on the same day. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend.
