In southern Gaza, at least 40 people have been killed and 60 injured following an Israeli airstrike targeting an encampment in Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis.
The area housed displaced individuals, and the attack occurred near a field hospital run by the British charity UK Med. The strike caused extensive damage, leaving large craters and widespread devastation. Emergency teams are currently recovering bodies and treating the injured. Israel’s military claimed it targeted a Hamas command center, a claim Hamas strongly denies, calling it a lie.
Earlier in central Gaza, another Israeli airstrike targeted a home in the Al-Bar refugee camp, killing multiple people. The injured were rushed to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir Al-Balah.
Dr. Bara Zuhaili, a vascular surgeon recently returned from Gaza, described the unimaginable devastation caused by airstrikes. He shared the harrowing story of a mother torn between her two daughters in an ER—one fatally injured, the other with both legs amputated—highlighting the toll these strikes take on survivors, particularly children. He emphasized the severe lack of medical supplies and described horrific scenes where basic care was impossible, resulting in maggots infesting untreated wounds.
Dr. Zuhaili also highlighted the dire shortage of medical supplies in Gaza, stating that even simple items like gauze and tape are unavailable. This lack of resources often leads to extreme conditions, such as patients developing maggot-infested wounds due to untreated bandages.
Reflecting on the ongoing strikes, Dr. Zuhaili expressed his disbelief at the continued violence, particularly the targeting of children. He questioned the purpose of the war, given the overwhelming number of civilian, especially pediatric, casualties. His firsthand experiences left him grappling with the inhumanity and devastation of the conflict.…Read more by Muneeb
