A surface-to-surface missile launched from Yemen struck an unpopulated area in central Israel early Sunday morning, causing no injuries, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The missile triggered air raid sirens in Tel Aviv and surrounding areas, sending residents running for shelter. Missile interceptors were launched, and loud booms were heard across the region.
Following the attack, a senior Houthi official, Hezam al-Asad, taunted Israelis on social media with a Hebrew-language post, referencing the attack and advising them to listen closely to an address by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of the Iran-backed group, scheduled for later today. The Houthi official’s post came amid tensions after the missile strike, which any group has not officially claimed.
Smoke was seen rising from an open field in central Israel, although it remains unclear whether it resulted from the missile or interceptor debris. This attack follows a similar incident in July when a Houthi drone targeted Tel Aviv, killing one person and wounding four others.
