It is with profound sadness that the family of Barry Acheson announce his passing at the age of 87 at the Carpenter Hospice on October 11, 2024, after a short but courageous fight with cancer. Barry will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 62 years, Carol (nee Jamieson). Cherished father of Nancy (Jay) LeMay, Ted (Kerry) Acheson and Matthew (Heeran) Acheson. He will be deeply missed as a devoted grandfather to Zachary (Elizabeth), Austin (Kayla) and Julia LeMay. Barry was a beloved brother of Jim (Barbara) Acheson of Burlington. Predeceased by his parents, Morrell and Eva Acheson (nee Ceaser); and brother and sister-in-law, Roger (Jean) Acheson. Barry will be missed by many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Barry was born in Owen Sound and moved with his family to Burlington as a child where he established deep roots and friendships and remained for the rest of his life. He started his second career at age 52 as Sales Manager at Eastwood Wood Specialties. He looked forward to going to work every day and passionately contributed to the business and worked until age 78. Barry had an adventurous spirit and with Carol traveled extensively throughout Europe, creating wonderful memories. After retirement, Barry tended to and took pride in his immaculate gardens. He loved his afternoon dates with Carol, going on daily coffee runs and parking at Sioux Lookout where they enjoyed the lake and watched the freighters go by. Barry enthusiastically followed local real estate trends and loved attending open houses. However, he proudly stayed in his own home, his favourite place to be, for 59 years! In his younger years, Barry was an active member of the Optimist Club, serving one year as president. He created memories for his family by the many motor trip holidays he planned and the experiences he initiated. He coached minor hockey for many years and was always active and keenly interested in the lives of his children and of their friends. His sense of humour was known to all. As a grandfather, he was present at all times, eager and proud, never missing a sporting event or dance competition. Grandpa was like a “best friend”, always ready to listen, offering unwavering support. Barry will be forever remembered as curious, inquisitive, a dapper dresser and lover of fine food. He will be missed beyond words.
