WILLIAMSBURG — Concertgoers attending the Three Jolly Coachmen’s Coffee House performance on Friday, Nov. 8, should come prepared to be fascinated and hugely entertained, according to series organizers.
Maryland-based “Wherligig” performs lively Celtic and Nordic tunes on a variety of instruments rarely seen in concert, organizers said. Nearly all those instruments have been made from scratch by one of the group’s members, a master luthier.
The group has been educating and entertaining audiences in the mid-Atlantic region and beyond since 1985, plays its music on instruments such as the organistrum, the nyckelharpa, the bowed dulcimer, the crwth, and many others, all of them crafted by Ken Koons. His son, ethnomusicologist Ryan Koons, and Peabody Institute Conservatory graduate Niccolo Seligmann, round out the trio.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, in Lewis Hall (Bruton Parish Episcopal Church’s fellowship hall), at 330 W. Duke of Gloucester St. in Williamsburg.
A portion of ticket sales and 100% of drink donations will be donated to the SpiritWorks Foundation, whose mission is to break the intergenerational cycle of addiction in families by educating, equipping, empowering, and celebrating individuals, families, faith leaders, and communities on the journey from addiction to recovery and beyond.
