You hear Funko Pop and it conjures up a certain image in your head. Likely the same image for most people which is a big-headed figure with a signature design. Funko has needed to change up that classic design for certain characters and has gotten creative with its ideas, and some of the Pops dropping this week are among its most creative yet. The new designs appear to be Jumbo Pops with Bitty Pops inside, and the first three will be available to buy at some point this week.
The three Pops haven’t technically been revealed yet, at least not officially. However, the first images of the figures have already been shared online revealing that Shockwave from Transformers, Marvel’s Hulkbuster, and Voltron are the first to be part of the collection. Since the listings for the Pops haven’t gone live yet, it’s unclear what exactly their dimensions are, but it’s fairly clear from these initial images that they’re larger Pops being piloted by Funko’s tiny Bitty Pops.
The images show Soundwave, Voltron, and the Hulkbuster Pops looking like regular old Funko figures, but open them up and they all have Bitty Pops controlling them. As noted by a few collectors already, the idea makes sense for Voltron and the Hulkbuster, but not so much for Soundwave. Being a big Transformers fan who is still riding the high from Transformers One, not only will I allow it, but I will almost certainly be buying one the second it becomes available.
Soundwave, Voltron, And The Hulbuster Will Kick Off The New Collection
If these Pops are what they appear to be in these first images, then they will likely be roughly ten inches tall, which is more than twice the size of a normal Funko Pop, and the Bitty Pop inside will be slightly shorter than an inch tall. As for price estimates, Jumbo Pops tend to be $45 when released. These ones might be even more expensive since Jumbo Pops don’t usually come with bonus Pops inside. We won’t know for sure until the listings go live.
Even though all we have are these first images for now, collectors are already putting together wishlists for other fandoms they’d like to see join Funko’s matryoshka doll range. By far the most requested addition so far is Power Rangers, presumably the Megazord that’s formed when all of their Zords come together. A Pop for each Zord with a tiny Power Ranger inside would be great, particularly if Funko can figure out a way for them to come together to create one super-sized Jumbo Pop.…Read more by Josh Coulson
