Vertiv is expanding its manufacturing footprint across the Americas as demand for high-density data centre infrastructure continues to rise. The company has confirmed four new or expanded facilities, aimed at increasing production capacity for power systems, integrated cabinets and infrastructure solutions used in AI-driven data centre environments. The move reflects growing pressure on operators to scale quickly while reducing deployment timelines. As AI workloads increase, data centres require more complex infrastructure that integrates power, cooling and IT systems into cohesive environments capable of supporting high-performance computing. Vertiv’s latest expansion focuses on enabling faster delivery of these systems, particularly for AI factories – large-scale data centre environments designed to support intensive AI model training and inference workloads.

The new and expanded facilities are located across the US and Mexico, with each targeting specific elements of data centre infrastructure. In South Carolina, two additional sites will focus on infrastructure solutions designed to accelerate deployment speed. Once fully operational, these facilities are expected to increase regional capacity by around seven times. Central to this approach are Vertiv’s integrated power modules and prefabricated infrastructure systems. Integrated power modules combine key electrical components into a single unit, allowing operators to deploy power systems more quickly than traditional builds. Vertiv states these systems can reduce deployment time by up to 50%.

The company’s SmartRun solution further supports rapid build-outs by combining multiple infrastructure elements into a unified system. This includes busway for power distribution, liquid cooling piping to manage heat, networking components and containment systems that control airflow within the data centre white space.

White space refers to the area within a data centre where IT equipment such as servers and storage systems are housed. By delivering these components as prefabricated units, SmartRun can reduce on-site installation time by up to 85% compared with conventional methods, enabling operators to bring capacity online faster.

In Pennsylvania, Vertiv has launched an additional facility dedicated to racks and containment systems. These cabinets are designed with integrated cooling capabilities, allowing them to support high-density AI applications where heat output is substantially higher than in traditional workloads. Integrated cabinets simplify deployment by reducing the need for on-site assembly and configuration. This approach supports repeatable designs, which are increasingly important as operators roll out standardised data centre environments at scale. Meanwhile, an expansion in Mexicali, Mexico will increase production capacity for power conversion, conditioning and distribution technologies by approximately 45%. These systems ensure stable and efficient power delivery to IT equipment, which is critical for maintaining uptime in environments handling AI and cloud workloads. “Vertiv sees AI as a long-term, secular trend, and we are accelerating our capacity expansions to anticipate the continued growth in demand,” says Giordano Albertazzi, CEO of Vertiv.

“Today’s announcement represents the most recent steps in our continuous capacity planning and deployment approach, as we further increase our regional and global footprint.

“We remain committed to our strategy of delivering future-ready, high-density solutions that enable our customers to plan confidently for multiple generations of compute ahead.” Vertiv’s expansion reflects a broader shift towards fully integrated infrastructure systems that combine power, cooling and IT into a single architecture. This approach supports the increasing density and complexity of AI workloads, which require coordinated management of energy use and thermal output.…Read more by Ben Craske
