Nine Killed, Including Infant, in Massive Fire at Delhi Residential Building
New Delhi, May 3, 2026: Nine people, including a one-and-a-half-year-old child, were killed and two others injured in a major fire that broke out in a four-storey residential building in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area early Sunday morning.
According to officials, the fire started on the second floor of the building around 4 am and quickly spread to the upper floors. A total of 14 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames and carry out rescue operations.
Fire personnel rescued more than a dozen residents from the building. The blaze was brought under control after nearly two hours, by around 6 am.
The injured were shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment.
Officials said the highest number of casualties occurred on the second floor, where five members of a family lost their lives. The deceased were identified as Arvind Jain (60), his wife Anita Jain (58), their son Nishant Jain (35), Nishant’s wife Anchal Jain (33), and their son Akash Jain (1.5).
On the third floor, three members of another family died in the incident. They were identified as Nitin Jain (50), his wife Shailey Jain (48), and their son Samyak Jain (25).
On the first floor, Sikha Jain (40) died in the fire, while her husband Naveen Jain (48) sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Visuals from the spot showed several portions of the building charred, with smoke billowing from the upper floors even after the fire was brought under control.
