Indiana man found not guilty by insanity in murder of 6-year-old Kentucky boy released

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT/CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – An Indiana man who was acquitted by reason of insanity in the murder of a young boy has been released.

Ronald Exantus, of Indianapolis, was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the death of a 6-year-old child has been released from prison after receiving credit for time served under state law.

Exantus was convicted in 2018 of assaulting members of the child’s family and was found guilty but mentally ill on those charges. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Exantus’ maximum release date was originally set for November 2035.

However, the Kentucky Department of Corrections said state law and earned credit for time served accelerated his release date.
