Monad developers propose quantum-safe wallets as Bitcoin and Ethereum weigh upgrades

Monad, an Ethereum-compatible blockchain built to process transactions faster, is proposing a major change to how crypto wallets are secured, allowing users to replace lost or outdated keys without abandoning their existing address.

Monad was among 2025’s most hyped blockchain launches, after its developer raised $19 million in 2023 and another $225 million in a Paradigm-led round in 2024.

The new proposal would separate a wallet’s permanent address from the key used to control it. As of today, losing that key can permanently lock a user out, while moving to a stronger security system often means creating a new wallet and transferring everything over.

Quantum computers pose a long-term threat to crypto because sufficiently powerful machines could eventually break the digital signatures used to prove ownership of coins.
