Faith played a major role in Martin Luther King Jr.’s journey toward justice and equality. In his faith-driven work, King’s beliefs weren’t just part of his personal life — they were at the core of everything he stood for.
Many of the values King believed in — equality, justice and love — align closely with other faith traditions. These spiritual traditions emphasize how we should treat one another with respect and work toward a better world.
King’s fight for racial equality was built on the idea that all people are created in God’s image. Islam teaches that all humans were created from a single soul (Quran 4:1), highlighting our shared humanity.
One of the most important aspects of King’s approach to justice was his commitment to nonviolence. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the peace-loving community I belong to, believes responding to hatred with love is one of the most powerful ways to bring about real change.
Spiritual tradition emphasizes hope and perseverance in the face of adversity. A better and more just world is possible. King’s work shows us how faith can be a powerful tool for change, helping us build a world where justice and compassion guide us.
