The security forces have blanketed De La Vega City in Spanish Town after residents on Friday afternoon remounted roadblocks to protest against Thursday’s fatal shooting of two men by the police.
The residents blocked the Port Henderson main road near the Spanish Town bypass on Friday morning to protest the shooting deaths of 44-year-old Everton Spike and his brother 33-year-old Jason Spike, both carpenters of Port Henderson Road, St. Catherine.
The police say the Spike brothers were shot dead when they confronted a police patrol team in the vicinity of Okra Lane, while walking towards De La Vega City about 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
But the relatives of the brothers say they were hardworking and not known to be involved in crime.
Acting Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the St. Catherine North Police, says one of the Spike brothers was the de facto don for the Okra Lane area which is aligned to the Clansman gang.
“The information received [is] that men from the Okra Lane area are upset at the fatal shooting of two men from the community, which occurred sometime on Thursday, February 6, after 7.45 p.m. Both deceased men are brothers and they are also the brothers of Jerome Spike, O.C. ‘Baba’, who is presently in custody, having been charged for being a member of a criminal organisation, as well as other criminal offences. The fatal shooting is being investigated by INDECOM, as well as internal investigators,” he disclosed.
Meanwhile, the St. Catherine North Police say the man shot and killed along Young Street near the market district in Spanish Town, St. Catherine on Friday morning was involved in extortion and other criminal activities in the area.
He is bus conductor Locksley Brown, otherwise called ‘Country’.
The police are searching for two men in relation to the killing.
Senior Superintendent Nicholson said Mr. Brown was on the police’s radar and was picked up as recently as last Thursday when he was warned and released.
Acting SSP Nicholson said a heavy police/military presence remains across the Spanish Town area.…Read more by
