A lot has happened since H-E-B first announced last spring that it would be giving one of its locations in deep South Texas a $34 million refresh.

An entirely new wing has been added to the H-E-B located at 2700 W. Freddy Gonzalez Dr., Edinburg, TX 78539. And new sections of the Rio Grande Valley store have recently been opened even as the massive glow-up continues. The bulk of exterior construction on the western side of the store appears to be mostly complete and includes an expanded staging area and dedicated parking for Curbside customers. Inside, H-E-B partners can access curbside operations within the staging area via a pass-through located in the newly expanded produce department.

Outside, the new curbside area hums with activity. A few yards away, construction crews have created a new entrance with a facade meant to look like wood paneling and permanently closed off another. Crews have yet to begin changing the facade on the building’s east side. However, in anticipation of the new entrance layout, the company reconfigured the parking lot last summer. The expansion project is expected to be completed in early 2027, company officials said in a news release last April.…Read more by Dina Arévalo
