ESCANABA – Betty Luetta Schaner, age 82, of Escanaba, Michigan, passed away peacefully Friday, March 13, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Betty was born on April 23, 1943, in Wilson, Michigan, to Harvey and Marcella (Olson) Kasbohm. She grew up in a large and lively family alongside nine sisters and two brothers, a childhood filled with hard work, laughter, and strong family bonds that remained important to her throughout her life.

On June 5, 1962, Betty married the love of her life, Larry Schaner. As Larry served in the United States Navy, the couple moved every three to five years, making homes in places such as Hawaii, North Dakota, California, West Virginia, Nevada, and Arizona. During these years Betty devoted herself to raising her family as a proud stay-at-home mother. Eventually, they settled in Kent, Washington, where Larry passed away in 2014. In 2015, Betty returned to Escanaba to be closer to family and her beloved sisters.

She is lovingly survived by her two sons, Gary (Debbie) Schaner and Chris (Gwen) Schaner; two brothers; and her sisters Barbara Couillard, Kathy Fraley, Dorothy Thorbahn, Jackie Cory, Janice Quinnell, and Terry O’Dell; and brothers, Harvey Kasbohm, Jr. and John Kasbohm. Three grandchildren, Josephine, Julean, and Garrette.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters Myrtle Anderson and Elsie Clark.

Private family services were held at the Anderson Funeral Home. The Anderson Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone are assisting the Schaner family with the arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.andersonfuneralhomes.net.…Read more by
