Emirates A380 gets major Wi-Fi upgrade with Starlink rollout

The Airbus A380 is set for a significant technology upgrade, as Emirates begins installing next-generation satellite internet on its flagship aircraft.

The first Emirates A380 fitted with Starlink has returned to service following installation and testing in the United Kingdom.

The move marks a sharp leap from earlier onboard internet systems, which offered limited speeds, to far higher bandwidth capable of supporting streaming, browsing and other data-heavy uses during flight.

Engineers have fitted multiple antennas to meet the demands of the aircraft’s large, double-deck structure and high passenger capacity.

Airlines have increasingly focused on connectivity as passengers expect in-flight internet to match ground-based services. The latest upgrade is designed to provide more stable and faster connections across all cabins, even on long-haul routes.

Emirates says installations will expand across more A380 aircraft through 2026, alongside a wider rollout already underway on parts of its Boeing 777-300ER fleet.

More than 650,000 passengers have already used the system on equipped flights.

The development highlights a broader industry shift towards improving the digital experience in the air, as airlines compete to meet growing demand for constant connectivity at cruising altitude.…Read more by business now
