When are we going to admit our president is unstable?

It was shocking to hear the leader of a country tell Iranians: “Open the (expletive) Strait, you crazy bastards, or you will be living in Hell …” and later to threaten that “a whole civilization will die tonight …”

It was even more shocking and alarming to hear the President of the United States say this.

Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader described Trump’s profanity warning to Iran as Trump “…ranting like an unhinged madman…”

Anyone listening to the rambling, angry, revengeful, and often incoherent speeches of the president should recognize there is something wrong.

Sadly, many cover for the president’s behavior with comments such as: “That is the way Trump is.” “That is how he negotiates.” “He just likes to exaggerate.” “He was just joking.” “He doesn’t talk like a politician,” etc.

Regardless of Trump’s erratic behavior, all the blame should not be placed on Trump. One man, without support, does not ascend or stay in power long. It has been the support of millions of citizens, and leaders — especially those in Congress — that has made Trump so powerful and almost unstoppable today.

Unfortunately, many individuals have given up their dignity in exchange for power and a seat at the table. Just a few examples:

Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, said Trump was “dangerous” and a “con man” when running against him in the 2016 election.

Vice President J. D. Vance has referred to Trump as an “idiot,” a “total fraud,” ”America’s Hitler,” and “unfit for our nation’s highest office,” Vance also called himself a “’Never Trump’ guy.”

These individuals, among many others, now attempt to outdo each other in their praise and compliments for the president, reinforcing the behavior they previously criticized.

For our own safety, we must tune out the superfluous words of his supporters, and heed the warnings by trained psychiatrists and mental health professionals.

In 2017, psychiatrists and mental health experts warned us about Donald Trump’s dangerous behavior in their book, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President.

In 2020, Donald Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist, described the president as being “…utterly incapable of leading this country, and it’s dangerous to allow him to do so.” Ms. Trump also wrote a book: Too Much—Never Enough: How my Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man

Before the 2024 election, a letter emphasizing the dangers of Trump’s mental health was signed by 233 mental health professionals for a New York Times ad. They described Trump in this way: “His symptoms of severe, untreatable personality disorder — malignant narcissism — makes him deceitful, destructive, deluded, and dangerous. He is grossly unfit for leadership.”

Trump’s behavior is so unusual that narcissistic personality disorder, cognitive decline and family history of dementia are discussed under the section “Age and Health Concerns About Donald Trump,” in Wikipedia.

Why have so many warnings been ignored about our president?

The main reasons seem to be: (1) allegiance to party above allegiance to country. (2) a lack of strong morals and convictions, (3) group pressure, (4) fear of consequences if one goes against those in power, and (5), desire for power and prestige.

Trump’s irrational outbursts are not just directed at politicians and other countries. He lashed out at Pope Leo. Trump later posted an outrageous image of himself as Jesus placing hands on an ill man.

Surprisingly, many Christians support a man who constantly spreads falsehoods, is cruel to others, https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2025/04/president-trumps-first-100-days-attacks-on-human-rights/ is revengeful, and who has no strong religious ties.

Marjorie Taylor Green, former Georgia Representative, in referring to Trump’s post about opening the “(expletive) Strait” told Christians in Trump’s Administration to “… stop worshipping the President … he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.”

Everyone who is aware that President Trump has mental issues is complicit if they continue to support and praise him, and refuse to speak out to alert our country to the dangers before us.

The paraphrased version of Matthews 7:15, “Be aware of wolves in sheep’s clothing,” is good advice for all of us. It would be even wiser to be aware of wolves in wolves clothing— especially if he is president and his behavior is not normal.
