Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.76%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Transport and Communication sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.76%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (TYO:5714), which rose 16.11% or 1,615.00 points to trade at 11,640.00 at the close. Yamaha Motor Co Ltd (TYO:7272) added 13.68% or 159.50 points to end at 1,325.50 and JGC Corp. (TYO:1963) was up 13.29% or 318.00 points to 2,710.50 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (TYO:7911), which lost 16.60% or 892.00 points to trade at 4,480.00 in late trade. SMC Corp (TYO:6273) declined 14.58% or 11,590.00 points to end at 67,880.00 and Nexon Co Ltd (TYO:3659) shed 10.97% or 276.50 points to 2,243.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1880 to 1704 and 203 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.96% to 29.67.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 2.04% or 2.06 to $103.23 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 1.66% or 1.75 to hit $107.47 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 2.41% or 113.10 to trade at $4,572.20 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 158.47, while EUR/JPY fell 0.23% to 184.34.
