Time for Jack’s tournament! The Memorial welcomes a limited field that includes most of the biggest stars of golf to Muirfield Village in Ohio this weekend for a PGA Tour Signature Event.
Nine of the top 10 and 48 of the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings are on hand for what will be for many players their final preparations before the U.S. Open two weeks from now at Shinnecock Hills. It’s the first tournament Rory McIlroy will play since his seventh-place finish at the PGA Championship; the two-time reigning Masters champ has taken part in just seven tournaments this year and withdrew from one.
Even with a loaded field, everyone is chasing world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. He’s done a fine Jack Nicklaus impression at the Golden Bear’s tournament as he seeks to become the first to win an event three years in a row since Steve Stricker won the John Deere Classic from 2009-2011. Remarkably, this is the third straight year Scheffler will attempt a three-peat at a PGA Tour event; the four-time major champion has yet to pull it off.

Scottie Scheffler: “Really, who else would be the favorite? Scheffler has made the cut in all five of his starts at Muirfield Village and his last four starts have resulted in finishes of 3-3-1-1. Obviously, he’s found something to his liking with this course and this tournament.” – Garry Smits, Florida Times-Union

Where is the Memorial played?
Since its inception 50 years ago, the Memorial has been held at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, about 20 miles northwest of Columbus. It’s hosted by Jack Nicklaus. Muirfield Village is a par-72 course that plays over 7,569 yards. The record-low for a round is the 61 John Huston carded in the second round in 61, while the best score at a tournament came in 1994 with Tom Lehman’s 20-under 268.
Scottie Scheffler picked up his second straight win at the Memorial last year, shooting 10 under par to beat Ben Griffin by four strokes. In 2024, Scheffler’s win was much tighter, as he shot 2 over on the final day but held onto a one-stroke victory over Collin Morikawa at 8 under.…Read more by Dan Rorabaugh
