Wong Chen’s Decision to Join Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) Sparked by Several Issues

Wong Chen, the Former Member of Parliament for Subang, Stated That His Termination as MDV Chairman in May Was Made Without Explanation and Was Perceived as a Personal Insult After More Than 22 Years of Service as a Corporate Lawyer.

Wong Chen’s Decision to Join Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) Sparked by Several Issues, Including the Termination of His Position as Non-Executive Chairman of Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad (MDV) in May and Being Blocked from Accessing the MyKhas System.

Wong Chen, the Former Member of Parliament for Subang, Stated that His Termination as MDV Chairman in May Was Made Without Explanation and Was Perceived as a Personal Insult After More Than 22 Years of Service as a Corporate Lawyer. He Claimed That His Removal from MDV in May Occurred Despite His Allegations of Successfully Bringing the Government-Linked Company (GLC) Under the Ministry of Finance Back to Profitability Over the Course of Three Years of His Leadership.

Wong Chen Mentioned That He Was Removed from His Position as MDV Chairman Within Five Days, Considering It a Personal Insult Because No Explanation Was Provided. However, Two or Three Weeks Later, the Secretary-General of the Treasury, Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican, Sent a Very Good Letter Expressing His Gratitude for Wong’s Service.

However, the Letter Was Marked as Confidential and Wong Chen Was Unable to Show It to the Media. He Also Stated That He Had Not Received Any Calls from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim Regarding the Matter. Wong Chen Believed That the Decision Was a Final One Made by the Prime Minister, as MDV Is Owned by the Ministry of Finance and He Had Served as a Corporate Lawyer for 22 Years.

The Removal of Wong Chen from MDV Occurred at a Time When His Relationship with Anwar’s Administration Was Becoming Increasingly Tense, Including After He Attended the Launch of Bersama, Led by Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad on May 17. Wong Chen Pledged to Continue Working in Subang Even After Resigning as the Member of Parliament for the Area on Monday.

He Stated That His Focus Would Be to Continue Serving the People of Subang and Ensuring That Their Welfare Is Not Affected After His Resignation. Wong Chen Also Planned to Open a Community Service Office in Subang in the Near Future to Facilitate the People’s Access to Assistance and to Submit Complaints Related to the Area.

He Believed That This Step Was Important Because His Responsibility to the People Should Not Cease Merely Because He Was No Longer a Member of Parliament for the Area. Wong Chen Also Stated That He Would Continue to Fight for the Interests of the People in the Area Even After His Position as a Representative Had Officially Ended Last Week. His Decision to Continue Working in Subang Also Demonstrated His Commitment to the Community That Had Supported Him Since 2013
