Costain Group PLC has continued to execute its share buyback programme, repurchasing a series of ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange between 26 August and 1 September 2026. The transactions, carried out through Investec at volume-weighted average prices in the low 230 pence range, are part of a broader capital management strategy.

The company intends to cancel all of the shares acquired under the programme and does not hold any shares in treasury, effectively reducing its share count. Following the latest purchases, Costain has bought back 6,605,587 shares for cancellation, bringing the total number of ordinary shares in issue down to 263,150,448, a move that may enhance earnings per share and signal confidence in its financial position.

According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, COST is a Outperform. The score is driven primarily by improving profitability, strong balance-sheet positioning, and solid cash-flow quality, which indicate a materially healthier business than in 2020–2021. Technicals add support as the stock trades above key moving averages with positive MACD and neutral momentum. Valuation is reasonable but not especially cheap, while the multi-year revenue decline remains the key offsetting risk to the otherwise improving fundamentals.
