Five-Day Training on Solar Energy and Battery Storage Systems Begins in Nepal

Kathmandu. A five-day training has started on promoting solar energy in Nepal’s industries and making battery storage systems safe, effective, and sustainable.

The training will provide participants with knowledge on the current status of solar and battery storage systems in Nepal, industrial carbon emission reduction, energy management, grid services, battery technology, safety standards, cyber security, environmental and social security, and other important topics.

45 engineers are participating in the training conducted by the Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

The high-level training on ‘Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems for Industrial Sector: Design, Installation and Safety’ is in collaboration with Practical Action and Ghampower Nepal.

Representatives from the private sector, educational and research institutions, and related government and non-governmental agencies from across the country are participating in the training. The Alternative Energy Promotion Center has stated that in addition to theoretical knowledge, participants will be given practical experience through group exercises based on real industrial scenarios and field observation tours.

In the context of Nepal prioritizing clean energy expansion, security, and green industrialization, the center expects to reduce overall energy consumption and make electricity supply reliable through the use of solar energy.

In the context of climate-induced disasters exposing the risks to energy infrastructure, the Rasuwa flood has highlighted the need to analyze the risks associated with monsoon-related events, as hydropower-based energy production, transmission, and distribution infrastructure are connected to river systems.

Ankita Shah, a member of the board of directors of the center, said that if solar energy and battery storage systems can produce and store energy locally in areas at risk of floods and landslides, it will significantly contribute to enhancing climate resilience.
