Politics in our country have reached a level of anger and divisiveness not seen in decades. While Tillett correctly observes that our representative democracy is struggling and that we as voters bear part of the blame, I believe that our elected officials own this issue, as well.
For far too many politicians, holding public office has ceased to be a temporary civic service and has instead become a lifelong career. When reelection becomes the primary objective, governance takes a back seat to partisanship.
Until we change these core incentives, the dysfunction will persist. The most direct answer to breaking this cycle is implementing strict term limits.…Read more by
