It’s with good reason that horror continues to be the big breakout genre for filmmakers – between the low cost of production and feverish audience demand, it’s the genre that most easily allows talent to thrive regardless of budgetary constraints.

But as hopeful and optimistic as most horror fans tend to be, sometimes it’s just clear that an upcoming film is categorically doomed, that for one reason or another, it’s likely not going to come together.

And that’s unfortunately true of these 20 horror movies, each of which appears to be doomed long before release – and in some cases, long before they’ve actually even been shot.

This might be because of highly questionable business decisions behind the scenes, creative calls that have left the fanbase reeling, or the film’s absolute, unquestionable lack of necessity.

Whatever the reason, these horror films are all firmly at risk when they release – assuming, of course, that they’re actually shot and released at all.

It’d be great to be proven wrong and eat a big serving of humble pie, but the writing is absolutely on the wall for these movies already…
