Bo Nix knows exactly what he is up against heading into Thursday night, and the Denver Broncos quarterback is trying to strike a delicate balance against the league’s most opportunistic defense. Denver hosts the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football, and the defending Super Bowl champions enter the game with 11 takeaways, the most in the NFL.

Speaking on Tuesday, Nix admitted that preparing for that defense has him wrestling with how aggressive to be.

“That’s, honestly, really and truly the biggest battle right now. You want to be aggressive, you want to be aggressive, you want to be aggressive, and then you see stats and you’re like, well, this team is causing the most turnovers in the league,” Nix said. “And then you’re like, OK, well, I can’t put my team in a situation where I’m turning the football over and putting our defense in a bad spot, giving them a short field.”

Ultimately, Nix said he has to stop overthinking it.

“Why would I go out there worried about throwing an interception? Why would I go out there trying to throw every football 50 yards down the field? Just play the play,” Nix said. “If the play’s there, hit it. If it’s not there, check it down, run, throw it away, punt. Who cares? That’s the play that I was dealt, and I have to just remind myself not to play hero ball.”

The comments come amid a rocky start for the third-year quarterback. Nix is completing under 60% of his passes and averaging just 5.8 yards per attempt, the lowest mark of his career, with six touchdowns and three interceptions through five games.

He was held in check again on Sunday, going 16-of-27 for 123 yards and a touchdown in a 23-17 comeback win over the Los Angeles Chargers that improved Denver to 3-2.

Nix also accepted that mistakes will happen.

“It’s going to happen. It’s happened before. It may happen again,” Nix said. “If it’s not there, I’m not going to throw it into a team meeting. I’m going to check the ball down, and we’re going to move on.” Seattle, also 3-2, will be looking to bounce back after a 32-29 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.…Read more by Miguel La Torre
