Letter: Late Wyomissing principal leaves tremendous legacy

A very special and loving event took place Jan. 29 at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church — the Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. Corey Jones. Family, friends, students and community gathered for a standing-room-only service. Such a showing of love and respect was heartwarming.Jones was a graduate of Gov. Mifflin High School and Shippensburg University. He earned his master’s degree at Wilkes University and his doctorate at Immaculata College.

His career was dedicated to education. He started off as dean of students at Exeter Junior High School, then assistant principal and athletic director for Tulpehocken High School, assistant principal at Conestoga Valley High School and principal at Spring Ford High School. In 2011 he was named Wyomissing High School principal, a position he held until his passing.

His interactions with the community are too many to mention. He was the backbone of Wyomissing High School and held it to the highest standards academically, professionally and personally throughout his 15 years of leadership.

His motto — “Stay classy, Wyo” — will live on forever.…Read more by Letter To The Editor
