The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series on Sunday witnessed another wild incident involving Hendrick Motorsports’ Rajah Caruth and Richard Childress Racing’s Jesse Love. It was the third time in in the last two months the duo had found themselves in a wreck and just like the last two times, the former was to blame for it.
On his post-race media session, Caruth was remorseful and shared his thoughts on ruining the No:2 drivers race which might’ve ended in victory lane. He admitted that he doesn’t know how to handle the negative impact he had on his rival on the day and asserted that he is looking to learn from the incident.
Putting myself in their shoes, that’s more than one time that I’ve impacted today. And today was for sure the one that really impacted their day. I’m not really sure how to handle it… Like I said, I’ve been the one that’s messed it up for them more than one time. … All I can do is do my best, try and learn from it and move on.
The star driver admitted that he should have had better decision making on lap 100, when he bobbled under Jesse Love and ended up on the wall. Rajah Caruth also added that he is sorry for what happened, just like he has been the previous two weekends when they came together.
It was up to me to control the car. We are all racing hard. It’s up to me to control the car and obviously sorry to those guys. I just didn’t think I’d get that loose into the corner. I should have had the hindsight in the moment to live for another corner. It was a really good car and I made my day way harder than it needed to be. I’ve said sorry a lot and I don’t know how to handle that. I’ve been in the wrong the last two times.
Rajah Caruth explains the reason for his aggressiveness on track
Later talking about the topic, he admitted that he should have had a top-10 day with the fast car his crew fielded on Saturday. If he had executed better and avoided the Love incident, as well as the second wreck involving Sam Mayor, that ruined his momentum, eventually earning him a P13 finish.
Earlier the racer admitted that he was tracing hard on the track because of the uncertainty around his future. He doesn’t have a deal with HMS for the 2027 season. Hence, he feels like he has to prove himself in every opportunity he gets in order to find a seat for next year.
…It hasn’t been anything on purpose, I’m just racing for my life out here. Nothing is guaranteed, I don’t know what my future holds. I feel like I need to make the most of the opportunities I have. I’ve crossed over and gotten too aggressive with it this year. I’m just trying to make the most of it.
The comments from the racer shows how the lack of security about racing future often hurts racers. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming weeks in the NASCAR second division.
