Facing Mobile Connectivity Issues Inside Coastal Road Tunnel? You Are Not Alone & Here’s Why

It was recently found that the Mumbai Coastal Road Project does not have any connectivity in its famous tunnel. One cannot even contact emergency services from inside the tunnel. This can be dangerous because if there is an untoward incident inside the tunnel, the affected person won’t be able to call for the help they need. If reports are to go by, this particular problem will soon be solved. Authorities are currently working on resolving this issue.

According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, this issue was highlighted to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC. The issue was highlighted by the telecom department. One cannot even contact the emergency services.

It takes around five or ten minutes to traverse through the tunnel and there is no cell reception for the entirety of the tunnel. This is pretty dangerous because if there is an accident in the tunnel, it is likely that people will have trouble contacting authorities.

As per the officials cited in the TOI article, the work of installing antennas in the tunnel is currently going on. It is expected to be finished by May 15 this year. Once done, people will get cell reception in the tunnel as well, as per reports.

This would ensure seamless connectivity in the tunnel and would make it safer. As of now, around 87 per cent of the work for the Mumbai Coastal Road Project is completed. The road, which is only partially operational now, will open fully once completed.
