Russia. 100 people injured in a tram collision in Kemerovo

One person has died and more than 100 have been injured after a tram collided in the Russian city of Kemerovo, local authorities said. According to media and Telegram channels, the accident may have been caused by brake failure of one train and rammed into another at high speed.

– According to the current data, 102 people were injured, one died, 31 of the injured were examined by doctors and released, 61 were undergoing medical tests – an interlocutor told the Russian Interfax agency on Thursday morning.

The acting governor of the Kemerovo region, Ilya Cheredyuk, announced in a post on the Telegram channel that the condition of the three wounded was critical.

According to the first and unofficial reports appearing in Russian media and Telegram channels, the accident occurred on the Kuznetsky Bridge and may have been caused by brake failure on one of the trams, which collided with the other at high speed. Platform X released footage from a surveillance camera showing the speeding train. At the ramp, the tram doors opened and two people fell from the train directly onto the road under the wheels of the cars.

According to the Basa Telegram channel, the tram with damaged brakes was driven by a 23-year-old tram driver who suffered multiple fractures.
